Save Grant Park!

AmwardI'll have more to say here about this topic soon, but a number of people have asked me about how to hear my WFMT radio commentary on the attempt by the "Chicago Children's Museum" and Chicago's Mayor-for-Life Richie Daley to grab up public parkland downtown to build a $100-million semi-underground (!) building in the park. It's here.

For more information on this controversy -- including the views of "the other side" -- the excellent Save Grant Park group's website is here.

Above is a picture postcard of A. Montgomery Ward (1844-1913), not only the founder of the mail-order catalogue and of the retail firm that bore his name, but the man who, during the the last years of his life, fought single-handedly to keep Chicago's lakefront "Forever Open, Clear, and Free."
