Our first ever "On the Road" edition of Critical Thinking -- from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Asia tour now underway -- aired Monday night Chicago time over 98.7WFMT Chicago and via free streaming over wfmt.com. It will be available starting later this week as a free podcast over wfmt.com.
Produced with my WFMT colleague Matt DeStefano, tonight's program includes a sound portrait by Matt of the stage set-up by the CSO stage crew at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, a conversation with CSO assistant principal viola Li-kuo Chang (above left), a Shanghai native and the first Chinese-born member of the orchestra, who was instrumental in getting the CSO to plan this first visit to China and helped to negotiate its logisitics, and excerpts recorded by Matt from a master class in Tokyo for young Japanese trumpet players with Tage Larsen of the renowned CSO trumpet section.
And see and hear more tour coverage at our new WFMT Tour weblog "OffMic."
See you on the radio!
