The big-eared (in the jazz player sense; physically his ears look fairly normal to me) music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, and former music director of the Pierre Boulez-founded Ensemble Contemporain in Paris. We spoke a couple of weeks ago when he was conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in Boulez tribute concerts. And we spoke as well about the varieties of modern and contemporary music -- We'll even play his and the SLSO's recording of John Adams's Doctor Atomic Symphony!
10 p.m. to 11 p.m. CDT on 98.7WFMT Chicago and via free streaming on wfmt.com
